What does it feel like to be at peace?

When have you felt most safe?

These two elements of being—peace and safety—comprise thick threads in the fabric of our wellness as humans. As an extension, the embodied experience of safety and peace has the capacity to reflect our true ease and nature of intuitive flow.

In this workshop, we will use the Personal Essay as a tool to engage in the concepts of peace and safety.

Where academic texts predominantly ask us to detach ourselves from the experiences we encounter, and poetic texts ask us to immerse ourselves in the full experience of self and personal perspective, the Personal Essay yokes each distinct style of writing into a unique interplay of neutrality and subjectivity. In this form, these worlds of words work together to create complexities that ask us to simultaneously, but respectively, see ourselves and be ourselves.

Using the Personal Essay, we will explore the feelings, energies, and memories of peace and safety as we journey to deeper knowing and observation of ourselves.

In this writing workshop, we will move through:

  • a somatic awareness practice to write from the body

  • a study of the intricacies of the Personal Essay

  • conscious sharing and reflecting within the writing community

  • focused writing prompts and tools to structure & develop your essay

Throughout the workshop, you will work your way towards a personal essay on the theme.
